Although it has a highly skilled, paid police department,
Fox Chapel Borough depends on a corps of trained volunteers
for firefighting services, something that has long been
true for most communities in Pennsylvania. While we
in Fox Chapel are fortunate to have the best equipment
and training available, and tremendous support from
Borough officials, we face the same manpower shortage
which plagues so many municipalities in our state. The
scary fact is that today's force of volunteer firefighters
is only 25% the size of the force active in this state
25 years ago. You need us, and we need you!

The benefits of membership in our department are many,
but the camaraderie and satisfaction derived from the
work we do together top the list. All we require of
you is your dedication, commitment and a little bit
of time. More specifically, this means attending once-weekly
training sessions or meetings and completing a soon-to-begin,
state-sanctioned training class. We are well supported,
financially, so don't worry about the fundraising component
present in so many departments these days. Remember,
too, that there is a job in the volunteer fire service
for everyone, adults young and old, fit and not-so-fit
coming from many walks of life.

Please give us a try; you won't be disappointed! We
welcome your interest and your questions. For more information,
please call members Dave Schaffner (412-487-2823). Or contact us via e-mail
at: info@foxchapelvfd.com.
