Fox Chapel VFD Fire Calls:

Fox Chapel Volunteer Fire Department responds to a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations.

In 2001, we responded to 204 calls, 93 of which could be labeled "false alarms." In 2002, there were 161 calls with 68 of them being false alarms.

To what types of calls do we often respond? Fortunately, we have very few structure fires in Fox Chapel. Although many calls can initially be considered as serious threats to life or property, most often they are less serious situations that may or may not require our assistance. Such calls can result from leaving a fireplace damper closed, burning food on the stove or in the oven, or having a furnace motor fail. All of these situations can fill the house with smoke and create the impression of more danger than actually exists. In such cases, we can rid your house of smoke by employing powerful fans.

In addition to fire calls, you will find the FCVFD active throughout the borough on many other types of calls. We are trained in both vehicular and non-vehicular rescue and extrication. In the wake of severe weather, you may also find us pumping out basements or securing areas around fallen power lines. We may also be required to secure a landing zone for rescue helicopters or may be found teaching children about fire safety.

Not only do we provide lifesaving services for Fox Chapel, but we also provide important services in mutual aid to neighboring communities in time of emergency as a member of the Valley Association of local fire departments.

So as you can see, wherever there is the real or potential threat to life or property, the FCVFD is there to answer the call. Public safety is our business!
